Teaching Artists — Part-Time
Paper Playground | Westchester, NY
$25–$35/hour depending on experience
Paper Playground, a children’s art studio in Mohegan Lake, NY, is looking for creative, enthusiastic Teaching Artists to join our growing Westchester team.
We create hands-on, process-focused art experiences for children that encourage creativity, experimentation, confidence, and self-expression. We are looking for artists and educators who are excited about making art with children and creating a warm, engaging studio environment.
We are currently hiring for two roles:
LEAD AFTER-SCHOOL TEACHING ARTIST
Our primary need is for a Teaching Artist to lead after-school art programs for children ages 3–10+.
The ideal candidate:
Has a strong background in visual art, design, illustration, crafts, or another creative discipline
Has experience working with children in a classroom, camp, studio, museum, or educational setting
Is confident leading a group of children independently
Can demonstrate and explain creative projects clearly
Is comfortable working with a variety of materials and techniques
Is energetic, patient, organized, and dependable
Enjoys working in a playful, hands-on environment
Can follow lesson plans while also bringing their own creativity and personality to the classroom
TODDLER + EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHING ARTIST
We are also looking for a Teaching Artist to lead art + sensory classes for children ages 2–4 and their caregivers.
For this role, experience working with young children is particularly important. We are looking for someone who is warm, patient, engaging, and comfortable creating developmentally appropriate creative experiences for toddlers.
A background in early childhood education, art education, studio art, or a related field is a plus.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
We are looking to build a consistent team of Teaching Artists, so there are opportunities to take on additional work throughout the year, including:
Weekend Open Studio
Birthday parties
Holiday and school-break camps
School vacation programs
Creative workshops
Special events
Additional classes and teaching opportunities
This is an excellent opportunity for art students, recent graduates, practicing artists, art educators, and creative professionals who enjoy working with children and are looking for meaningful, flexible teaching work.
Qualifications
A degree in art, art education, education, or a related field is welcome but not required. We are more interested in finding people who are talented artists, excellent communicators, responsible educators, and genuinely enjoy working with children.
Prior experience working with children is strongly preferred.
Compensation & Location
Pay: $30–$35/hour depending on experience
Location: Mohegan Lake, NY
Position: Part-time, ongoing
We are especially interested in candidates who are available for ongoing weekday and occasional weekend work and who would like to become part of the Paper Playground teaching team.
