About The Longest Table
The Longest Table is a community-building movement built around a simple but powerful idea: set a table, invite your neighbors, and make room for connection.
What began with a small group of strangers planning a neighborhood meal has grown into a movement helping people create joyful, meaningful gatherings in their own communities. At Longest Tables, people who may not otherwise meet—across generations, backgrounds, and beliefs—share food, conversation, and a sense of belonging.
We believe rebuilding community does not have to be complicated. Sometimes, it starts with a table.

The Opportunity
The Longest Table is looking for a highly motivated Community & Content Intern to help grow a movement rooted in real-life connection.
You will join a small, nimble, purpose-driven team and work directly with experienced leaders who are building the infrastructure behind a growing, neighbor-led community movement. This is an opportunity for someone who wants more than a typical internship: you will help create systems, stories, and communications that make it easier for people to bring their own communities together.
The right person is organized, resourceful, warm, and energized by turning ideas into action. You enjoy organizing chaos, communicating clearly, creating compelling content, and helping people feel welcomed and supported.
What You’ll Do
- Help manage and improve the host journey, from initial inquiry through post-event follow-up.
- Maintain project-management documents, timelines, trackers, templates, and team communications.
- Support a growing network of volunteer hosts and community members with clear, thoughtful, and timely communication.
- Help create content across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, the website, newsletters, and other channels.
- Turn stories from tables, hosts, and participants into short-form video, graphics, captions, written content, and other social assets.
- Assist with planning, staffing, documenting, and following up on in-person gatherings and events.
- Support community management by responding to messages, organizing information, and helping people take the next step toward hosting or attending a table.
- Track basic audience, host, and content data, then help translate it into useful insights and stories for the team.
- Bring ideas for how The Longest Table can expand its reach while preserving what makes it special: simplicity, warmth, trust, and a table that belongs to the neighbor who sets it.
What We’re Looking For
- You care deeply about community, belonging, civic life, and bringing people together across difference.
- You are self-motivated, dependable, and comfortable taking ownership of a project and moving it forward.
- You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- You are a strong written and verbal communicator with a warm, clear, and responsive communication style.
- You enjoy working with people and understand that every interaction with a host or community member reflects the organization’s values.
- You can create quick, compelling social content and understand what makes people stop, watch, share, or respond.
- You are comfortable learning and using tools such as Google Workspace, Canva, Airtable or other project-management tools, Squarespace, CapCut, social-media platforms, and AI tools.
- You are collaborative, positive, curious, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment.
- Experience with community organizing, events, nonprofits, social media, communications, or campus organizations is helpful but not required.
Details
- Compensation: This is an unpaid, part-time internship for academic credit. Applicants must be eligible to receive academic credit through their college or university.
- Location: New York City. We believe real-life connection and collaboration matter, so the role includes in-person meetings, events, and occasional community activations as needed, with flexibility around academic schedules.
- Commitment: Part-time. Hours will be determined based on the intern’s academic-credit requirements, class schedule, and team needs.
- Timing: [Fall 2026 / Spring 2027], with the possibility of extension into a subsequent term.
- Reporting: The intern will work closely with co-founders Maryam Banikarim and Andy Lerner, as well as a small, nimble team—particularly the Chief of Staff—on community operations, content, and event-related work.
