Contract Duration: 24 Months
Work Arrangement: Onsite for the first 6–12 weeks, followed by potential hybrid work based on performance, staffing, and business needs. Candidates must be able to commute once a week to a secondary company location.
Position Summary
We are seeking a GIS Mapping Technician to update and maintain electric utility GIS data. The role involves processing work orders, analyzing asset information, creating maps and reports, and supporting field and office operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Update and maintain electric utility GIS models and asset data.
- Process work orders, construction drawings, field reports, and completion records.
- Perform GIS analysis and queries to create maps, reports, charts, and tables.
- Produce standard prints and custom plots for field and operational requests.
- Maintain service point and transformer connectivity data.
- Resolve mapping, connectivity, and data discrepancies.
- Support utility projects, including relocations, load rearrangements, and new business.
- Operate printers, plotters, scanners, and other office equipment.
- Perform occasional field work, approximately 5–10% of the role.
Required Qualifications
- 1–2 years of GIS experience through work, education, or internships.
- Ability to edit and update GIS systems; utility or electric industry experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows applications.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to work onsite during training and commute to additional company locations.
- Valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with electric utility GIS data.
- Knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Experience with mapping, tabular data, work orders, or asset management systems.
- Familiarity with safety-conscious or union work environments.
Important: GIS editing experience is preferred but not required. Candidates must be comfortable working onsite daily during the initial training period and traveling to a secondary location once per week.
