Malta House, Inc. is a transitional living program in the state of Connecticut where a mom can stay with her baby for long-term support and a “hand-up” as she journeys to independence and hope.
Malta House has an onsite nursery. Occasionally, we have a need for someone to fill in on a temporary basis as a nursery assistant to cover for a regular employee. Nursery assistants help care for children from 0 – 3 years old during the day while their mothers are working.
To accommodate the various schedules of Malta House moms, the nursery is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Covering for a regular employee could mean taking a 4-hour, 5-hour or an 8-hour shift within these hours on a weekday.

The Nursery Assistant is responsible for the daily implementation of play, teaching, and cleaning in the nursery.
Key Responsibilities:
· Assist in the direct physical, social, and developmental care of infants and toddlers in the nursery
· Implement a daily structured schedule, focused on age-appropriate learning and discovery
· Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and trauma-informed learning environment
· Maintain complete children files and complete documentation as required
· Maintain confidentiality for all persons served · Complete all other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lifting up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Mobility: walking (including up and down stairs), standing, sitting, running, and playing on the floor. Stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, stooping (bend at waist) frequently, Must be able to reliably commute to nursery location in Norwalk, CT.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE Qualified candidates will possess a high school diploma or equivalent certificate, and the personal qualities necessary to care for and work with children and relate to adults, including parents and staff.
Certification in Connecticut Child Care and CPR preferred. Excellent communication, organizational and administrative skills with ability to read, write and understand English. Bilingual ability is a plus.
Ability to demonstrate initiative, follow-through and problem solving skills. Ability to accept and adapt to changing emotional needs of babies. Possess empathy and compassion for low-income and homeless families, individuals and children in need.
Reliability to meet deadlines, adhere to scheduled meetings, and be on time to work.
